When Do You Hire a Private Detective?

I’ve been a state licensed PI for over 12 years.  In this extremely interesting profession I’ve seen and heard just about everything. One thing that hurts a clients’ case more than anything else I’ve seen is when a spouse becomes suspicious, they try to be their own private detective and start trying to gather data and put the pieces together. They usually go about this in the wrong way by trying to follow their spouse, talking to their friends, co-workers, family members, and excessive questioning the spouse. This will always tip off the spouse making your case more difficult when you do decide to hire a professional.

Number one, if he or she is cheating, they’re not going to tell you the truth, but rather take more steps to try and hide the relationship by becoming more careful and looking over their shoulder. Secondly, even if you were successful in following them and catching them, your evidence would not hold up in court. You could lose everything and even end up with a stalking charge against you.

There are no easy answers when the heart is on the line and the feelings of betrayal are overwhelming. However, you need to consider hiring a good state licensed private investigator the first time you feel uncomfortable about the activities of your spouse, or the lack of personal interest towards spending quality time with you.
